In recent years, talcum powder has been successfully applied in the field of sewage treatment. There have been relevant studies on using it as a coagulant, coagulant aid, filter aid, adsorbent, and oil absorbent. Talcum powder can be used as a filter aid to treat papermaking wastewater.
The papermaking wastewater is treated by adding talcum powder to the water treatment equipment. The results show that when the dosage of talcum powder is 1.2g/L (sieved by a sieve with a pore size of 0.1mm), the removal rate of CODcr (refers to the oxygen demand measured by using potassium dichromate as the oxidant, which is the value of COD measured by the potassium dichromate method) can reach more than 90%. The addition of talcum powder filter aid reduces the membrane fouling resistance by 68.5% and the filter cake resistance by 91.1%. While slowing down membrane fouling, it also extends the service life of the membrane. Due to the strong adsorption of filter aid talcum powder, sludge flocs are easier to gather and the viscosity is correspondingly reduced, so that the membrane fouling resistance is reduced. The research and development of a new type of cheap talcum powder filter aid is a new direction in the application research of talcum powder.
